What Do Parents and Students Get Out of DISSY Breakfast?
DISSY BIRTHS: Desi Breakfast Bradford School which offers children all the facilities and support they need to start
their day in a positive and peaceful mood. The founder of DISSY BIRTHS, Mr.
Subir Malik grew up in Bradford - Yorkshire in England. He attended the Le
Cordon Bleu in Leeds where he gained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later on,
he joined the International Franchise Association (IFAA) in the UK and then
worked for several franchisors before setting up his own franchise.
"We were always known as the Little
English Academy. It was really sad when we left," recalls Subir.
"That's why we set up this school. Our aim was to make it easy for
children from all backgrounds to attend and then graduate." DISSY BIRTHS
offers a disciplined approach to schooling, with sports, games, band and art
forms to keep children engaged. All the students live in a common environment,
sharing their lessons and activities through club life, lunch rooms and
kitchens.
"When you live in a multicultural area,
there is often tension between your family and other members of your community.
This can lead to problems at school and at home. You know that tension and
pressure are very hard to cope with. You feel under pressure all the time.
That's why joining a DISSY breakfast club is so important. A DISSY breakfast
club helps you cope with the pressure."
DISSY BIRTHS also offers the opportunity for
parents to get together with other parents who have their children in the same
age group. The parents of the young learners take turns hosting a game night
and host a dinner, making the experience more fun for the young people. The
school district work hand in hand to keep things running smoothly.
The DISSY School is located in an area where
obesity is very common. "We all know that obesity is not good for our
youngsters. Some of them do not like to eat and that can lead to problems. So,
when they come to meet the school and host the DISSY Breakfast Club, they know
that they are welcome to join, because they are going to get a great support
from the teachers, and the other parents, and from all the other kids in the
school."
DISSY Breakfast clubs have a wide range of
activities planned each morning. They start with a fun introduction and
introduce them to the other members of the club. They learn about who they are
going to be spending the next day with and make friends. They enjoy learning
about the history of each other and building bonds with each other. It is a day
packed full of fun, education and relaxation.
DISSY Breakfast clubs host a variety of
cultural events each morning. For instance, the first event of the day is a
visit from the Indian Maharajah to observe the annual "Bada Danda"
festival. Each child gets a brand new set of utensils as a present, and they are
free to carry them home. They also get to enjoy a traditional dance, which
starts the day right. On the first day, children are encouraged to learn about
the culture of Maharajah's India, as well as the significance of the day for
Indians everywhere.
DISSY Breakfast continues each morning at
school. Children learn about their Indian heritage and family values as they go
to their parent's place for lunch. Each parent goes home with a story about
what happened on this special day - and the child learns something. The combination
of food, story and music is an experience the whole family will remember for
years to come. DISSY School started out as a small school in a small rural
community, but now it has expanded into a national organization with a national
reach.
